About this Image:

This painting was created shortly after the devastation in New Orleans caused by Hurricane Katrina. The Louisiana state flag had the words, union, justice and confidence written on it and showed a mother pelican embracing her young. I took the words and the flag and applied it to the situation in New Orleans having an African American Mother holding her 3 babies in her arms as a single tear drops down her face. They are draped in the American flag.  Imagery of the tragic events make up the collaged background.
